Where were you on April 29?
A famous Taylor Swift lyric that many people love to share. It the day, people may share their to do list, maybe a location, or a memory. Tuesday, I spent it at work at the news station, knocking out the daily grind of local news in Northwest Iowa. I’ve also been extremely busy the last few months. (I apologize for the absence!) One of the biggest things my family has been facing is preparing for a military deployment of a family member. A major life event, and it can bring a lot of emotions. Like stress, pride, uncertainty, and everything in between. Preparing for a deployment affects the whole family, not just the service member.
I shared this small devotional with my circle of friends, but I also wanted to share it with you.
Joshua 1:9: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
As we mark this final time before deployment, we stand on the firm foundation of God’s promises! Joshua 1:9 reminds us that courage does not come from our own strength alone, but from the faithful presence of God. The same God who spoke to Joshua speaks to us today: “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
This month will be full of preparation, emotion, and prayer. I have prayed daily knowing we are getting close and closer to this date. Praying not just for protection, but for peace, wisdom, strength, and steadfast courage. While also us at home, facing this battlefield of trust and patience.
As a community, I ask you to stand strong beside him in spirit, to be courageous in support, and to cling to the promise that wherever he goes, God goes with him.
- Pray for strength and peace for our soldier as he prepares for departure.
- Pray for clear communication, logistical needs, and safe preparations.
- Pray for God’s protection and guidance to surround him before, during, and after deployment.
Thank you all SO much for supporting our family on this mission. 🤍
