I’ve got to admit. It feels pretty nice when someone brings me flowers. It is a reminder to you that someone cares about you. But how often do you get that bouquet of blooms?
A woman in Dakota County, Nebraska is mastering the art of spreading kindness with flowers throughout the Siouxland area.
Sweet Like Honey
For the last year, Robyn Lieber has been pouring her heart and soul into a non-profit she launched that spreads kindness like its confetti, called Sweet Like Honey. One part of her mission takes pre-loved arrangements that are donated to her from weddings, funerals, etc, and turns them into twice-blessed bouquets that someone else can enjoy until the flowers fade back to dirt. She has done hundreds of these bouquets. I first heard about Robyn and her non-profit when I was ordering food at Chick-fil-A inside and sat down at a table to see a vase with flowers on it with a motivational note. I had to find out more. (that is the reporter in me!)
A Floral Experience at the Gala
Thursday was the first Sweet Like Honey fundraising gala at the Peirce Mansion in Sioux City. Exquisite flower arrangements are scattered across the historic venue with the rooms full of sweet blooms for guests to enjoy. I loved the tables with the elegant centerpieces creating a feast for the eyes. A room was dedicated to creating your own second blessed bouquet to take to someone else who you wanted to spread a little kindness towards. The ladies who showed up had so many smiling faces while getting to experience putting the colored flowers together. The last time I was invited to make a bouquet with Robyn I gave them to my News Director at the TV station on a stressful day. I am passing it on to my Grandma-In-Love, our Grandma June. We are having a tea party, these will be the perfect way to decorate for our afternoon soiree.
How is God using Robyn?
Right now Robyn is working on raising money for a storefront location, in a repurposed grain silo. Each ticket from the gala went straight towards her funds to bring this idea to life. She is working on raising enough money for a used car to help with flower deliveries, a floral cooler, and a place to put the grain silo which will be a headquarters for Sweet Like Honey. I fully support Robyn’s mission in the Siouxland area and the vision God gave her when he laid this idea on her heart. Click here to follow Sweet Like Honey on Facebook.
It is not every day you get to experience such a loving friendship who radiates the fruits of the spirit and has a love for the Lord so contagious it makes you want to go out and do something good for someone else.
IN THE NEWS: Sweet Like Honey: Local non-profit spreading kindness in Siouxland
Sweet, like the honey.
Take a moment this week and see what imaginary flowers (or go and buy some!) you can pass on to someone. It cannot only make them feel valued and encouraged but also encourage them to pass that feeling on to somebody else. A positive ripple effect.
