A Thriving Downtown Sioux City
My favorite day of the week is Friday. It rounds out the work week, and to celebrate my husband and I typically spend dinner out on the town at some of our favorite restaurants.
Just last week we visited the famed “SoHo’s” which reopened under new ownership. (and yes, they brought back the flatbreads!)
I am amazed at how many local spots fill our downtown. Downtown Sioux City offers a unique blend of historic charm and modern vibrancy. It’s a mix of preserved historic buildings and contemporary architecture, with new unique local businesses opening every season.
The heart of downtown is bustling with activity, especially during events and festivals.
RELATED: So much to do on June 22, no literally.
Local businesses, from quaint coffee shops to trendy boutiques like Rooted Boutique where I always have to snap a pic of the latest items for outfit inspo for the next week, inviting both residents and visitors to explore with the possibility of catching the aroma of fresh coffee and baked goods if you walk by Crumb. or Council Oak Supply.
Dining in downtown Sioux City is always a treat. There is such a variety of restaurants offering everything from classic American BBQ to international cuisine. (We love Trattoria Fresco!) Many eateries feature outdoor seating, allowing you to soak in the vibrant street life while enjoying your meal, the Warrior Hotel will offer an ‘igloo’ experience when it gets cold enough up ontop of the rooftop.
We are going into the holiday season which means Christmas lights, music, parades, movies, and lots of memories to be made. My family is even taking our Christmas card photo on 4th Street that benefits the Siouxland Humane Society at Paws N’ Claus! (There are still time slots left if you want to snap a pet photo with Santa!)
So what is with all the hype? A week from today is Shop Small Saturday. When you shop at small businesses, you're directly contributing to the local economy. These businesses often reinvest their earnings back into the community, which helps to create jobs and stimulate economic growth. Small Business Saturday is a great way to show your support for local entrepreneurs, enjoy unique products, and contribute to the well-being of your community.
So whether you are shopping in Sioux City, Iowa, or your local city ahead of the holidays, please remember to love on your local businesses! These are your neighbors, your friends, and when you shop small it builds a sense of community. These businesses often sponsor local events, charities, and sports teams, fostering a stronger, more connected community. People greet each other warmly and I love to run into friends and acquaintances in this area.
When you visit, you're sure to feel the unique spirit that makes downtown Sioux City a special place.
