MORE FLOWERS. I know. But I promise you don’t want to miss this.
This was my first time in Akron, Iowa in general! I have missed year after year seeing the bright yellow blooms along Highway 3 in Plymouth County, Iowa.
I had to experience them for myself.
The Flower Patch
You won’t forget the name of this place. Straight to the point! We spent a morning this weekend walking through the field. It was GIANTATIC. 12 acres to be exact!
I found it so peaceful walking through the rows of sunflowers with my 4-month-old puppy, Brewer. The best part about this experience was watching families build core memories with their loved ones in this field. There were selfies galore, but also a group that was taking family portraits.
The only catch was the constant buzzing. But bumblebees were even having a hay day working hard and didn’t mind the humans!
The paths through the sunflowers were marked so you never felt lost. I enjoyed seeing all the families spending time together and making memories.
At the end of your walk through the rows of flowers, you can take some clippers and find a bloom to take home that comes with the price of admission into the field.
Sadly, the patch won’t be open for long as sunflowers have a short, but beautiful life.
Their last day open is Sunday, July 28th.
I hope you have the time to check it out for yourself, located at the corner of Diamond Ave. & Hwy 3 east of Akron, IA.
How about some local coffee?
On my way out of town, I needed a little pick-me-up with a little caffeine. With a pup in tow, we found the only drive-thru coffee shop in town that Google highlighted on the map, and it was the spot. Literally! I found “The Spot: Espresso Bar and Cafe”! My “twisted” iced coffee was just what I needed for the ride back to the city. What a great way to end a weekend!
