In the age of technology, you really can’t go anywhere without a phone.
As a new writer and a very busy 20-something-year-old, I am even writing this in my notes app! I always brain dump into this thing and now you get to read my sometimes jumbled-up thoughts. Last night hit me a little harder than it should.
Story time.
Let me take you back to an evening in June. It was the first day that hit 94 degrees in June in Sioux City. I called up my friend and we had a double date at her house to enjoy the pool in her backyard and grill up some tacos. We go to an authentic Mexican grocery store down the street from her house. I swear, It’s the best summer meal in my opinion. After splashing around in the water for a few hours, drinking some beer around the pool, and talking about our day, we dried off and were getting ready to eat all waiting, sitting in the chairs around the pool. I looked up and all four of us were sitting on our phones. Out of the moment, each in our worlds. My friend quickly noticed and snapped us back to reality around the poolside, to be in the moment with our closest friends. It made me sad that although we had so much fun we went back to our phones for a mini retreat endlessly scrolling. Does this ever happen to you?
I want to encourage you today if you find yourself behind the screen during a moment throughout the day that maybe deserves more of your attention to put the phone down. It’ll all be waiting for you when you get home.
